Police Reveal Cases Of Tens Of Billion Bonds Fraud, Confiscate Jeep-CRV Cars And Counterfeit Foreign Money

JAKARTA - The Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police has uncovered a fraud case using the bond mode. This gang managed to reap a profit of Rp36 billion.

"What is this case about? about bonds. As is known, bonds are debt securities that are traded. But here they are used as a tool to deceive," said the Director of Special Economic Crimes (Tipidexus) of the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency, Brigadier General Helmy Santika to reporters, Wednesday, June 2. .

There are two suspects in this fraud case. Both had the initials AM and JM who were arrested on May 25 in Tegal and Cirebon City.

Based on the examination, the suspects acted in three areas, including Jakarta, Central Java and West Java. The scam has been going on for several years.

"The perpetrators have been carrying out their actions for more than 3 years, so there may have been many other victims. Other victims the losses could reach Rp36 billion," said Helmy.

"Then regarding the bonds themselves, they call them bonds, debt securities, but we still doubt the truth of these bonds. We suspect this is something false," he continued.

From their arrest, the police confiscated several pieces of evidence. These include cars, notes or bonds, and counterfeit money from several countries.

"We confiscated Honda CRV, Jeep, Hilux cars. There were also motorbikes ranging from Kawasaki Ninja, Honda. Then currency denominations were found," he said.

"There are 9,800 Korean 5,000 won notes. Then 2,100 1 million Euro notes, 2,600 100 USD denominations," continued Helmy.

Helmy confirmed that he would explore the origin of the foreign money.

Currently, the two suspects are charged with Article 372 of the Criminal Code, 378 of the Criminal Code, and Article 345 of Law Number 8 of 2010 concerning the crime of money laundering. They are also accused of Article 36 and 37 of Law number 7 of 2017 concerning Currency.
