JAKARTA - Flooding has again submerged the Tanjung Lengkong area, Bidara Cina Village, Jatinegara District, East Jakarta, with water levels reaching 1.7 meters or 170 centimeters (cm).
Lurah Bidara Cina Suhartono said that heavy rain that hit the southern Jakarta area since early Friday morning was the main trigger for the rise in water levels in the area.
"Since dawn at around 04.30 WIB, heavy rain has continued to pour on the southern region. Based on the early warning of flooding, the status in Katulampa, Manggarai, and Depok was on standby 3," said Suhartono as reported by ANTARA, Friday, February 20.
The water level reached 1.7 meters. Until now it is at the deepest point, namely in Gang Macan RT 05/RW 07.
According to him, the water began to enter the residential area around 11.00 WIB and continued to rise until the afternoon.
"For the highest point is in Gang Macan RT 05 RW 07, reaching 170 cm since 17.00 WIB. The increase occurred from around 11.00 WIB until this afternoon," said Suhartono.
The high water level in Manggarai, which is still in alert status 3, makes the water flow blocked and has an impact on downstream areas, including Bidara Cina.
"The water looks like it is being held back because in Manggarai it is still on standby 3, so the discharge has not completely receded," said Suhartono.
As a result of the flood, 500 families (KK) or about 1,300 people in RW 07 were affected. However, so far no residents have been displaced.
"So far no one has been displaced. Hopefully it will recede quickly because now the weather is not raining," said Suhartono.
A number of joint personnel have been deployed to be on standby at the location, such as Babinsa, Bimaspol, TNI-Polri, the Water Resources Service (SDA), and the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).
"If the status is 3, friends from Babinsa, Bimaspol, TNI-Polri, SDA, and BPBD are all on standby in place," he said.
Even though there was quite a high puddle, he ensured that the inlet of the sewer leading to the East Flood Canal (KBT) was still functioning normally. This is expected to help accelerate the receding of the water when the upstream discharge begins to decrease.
Meanwhile, the village ranks continue to monitor the development of high water levels and coordinate with related agencies to anticipate the possibility of a subsequent increase, especially if it rains again in the upstream area.
Suhartonopun also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and immediately report to officers if they need evacuation or emergency assistance.
