Closing the DPR Session, Puan reminds the position of the Republic of Indonesia in the Board of Peace: Keep Active Free Politics

JAKARTA - The Chairperson of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, led the Plenary Meeting of the Closing of the III Session of the 2025-2026 Session. In his closing speech at the DPR session, Puan reminded Indonesia's position in its membership in the Board of Peace (BoP) formed by Donald Trump, namely to remain as a country based on active free politics.

Bop is a multilateral supervisory body established on January 15, 2026 to oversee the implementation of the Gaza Peace Plan and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803.

"The government must be able to optimize Indonesia's strategic position as President of the UN Human Rights Council and in the Board of Peace to contribute significantly to the resolution of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and encourage the realization of Palestinian independence," said Puan at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday, February 19.

"Indonesian leadership in the UN Human Rights Council and Indonesia's participation in the Peace Council must remain based on a free and active foreign policy, upholding the principle of sovereign equality (sovereign equality)," continued the former Coordinating Minister for Political, Social, and Cultural Affairs.

Puan emphasized that this is as stated in the UN Charter and the opening mandate of the 1945 Constitution in which Indonesia participates in implementing world order based on independence, lasting peace, and social justice.

"This principle ensures that Indonesian diplomacy is not merely symbolic, but stands firmly on the basis of sovereignty, equality, and respect for international law," explained Puan.

During this trial, Puan said the DPR RI had strengthened bilateral relations through meetings with parliamentary delegations from friendly countries. Such as South Korea, Japan, Sudan, Kuwait, Iran, Cuba, Albania, South Africa, Algeria, and the United States.

"Through the function of diplomacy, the DPR RI plays an active role in supporting Indonesia's foreign policy, building trust between countries, and initiating dialogue on various global issues. The DPR RI is committed to encouraging a more just, peaceful, and prosperous world order for all mankind," he explained.

Meanwhile, in the economic field, Puan ensured that the DPR RI continued to monitor policies that strengthen the independence of national industries, food and energy security, as well as strengthening MSMEs and labor protection.

then in the social and cultural fields, Puan said, the DPR will also always strengthen the quality of education, health, and protection of vulnerable groups will continue to be a priority for the DPR RI.

"In the political field, commitment to democracy, the rule of law, and human rights must continue to be upheld through regulations that have strong social legitimacy," he explained.

"With this clear and measurable agenda, the DPR RI not only responds to global dynamics, but also ensures that Indonesia's presence in the global ecosystem becomes an opportunity to strengthen the sovereignty, welfare, and dignity of the nation," added Puan.
