JAKARTA - Eighty countries and international organizations have condemned Israel's unilateral decisions and actions aimed at expanding Israel's illegal presence in the West Bank.
In a statement delivered by the Palestinian Ambassador to the United Nations Riyad Mansour along with representatives from various countries and international organizations, including the Indonesian Ambassador to the United Nations Umar Hadi, at a press conference at the United Nations headquarters, New York City, United States, the group said the decision was contrary to Israel's obligations under international law and must be immediately reversed, and expressed firm opposition to any form of annexation.
The statement reiterated the rejection of all actions aimed at changing the demographic composition, character, and legal status of the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem, reported WAFA (18/2).
Furthermore, it is said, the action violates international law, undermines efforts to achieve peace and stability in the region, is contrary to the comprehensive framework for resolving the conflict, and threatens the prospects for a final peace agreement.

The countries reaffirmed their commitment, as outlined in the New York Declaration, to take concrete steps in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions, as well as the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice on July 19, 2024, to support the Palestinian people's right to self-determination and address the settlement policy and the threat of forced expulsion and annexation in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem.
They stressed that achieving a just and lasting peace based on relevant UN resolutions, the Madrid framework, the principle of land for peace, and the Arab Peace Initiative, as well as ending the Israeli occupation that began in 1967 through a two-state solution, remains the only way to ensure regional security and stability.
As previously reported, the Israeli government approved a plan to claim most of the occupied West Bank as "state property", if the Palestinians cannot prove their ownership.
Israeli media Kan reported on Sunday that the proposal was submitted by Israeli Defense Minister Katz, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and Justice Minister Yariv Levin.
Quoted from Al Jazeera, Smotrich said the move was a continuation of the "settlement revolution to control all our land".
Meanwhile, Levin called it an expression of the Israeli government's commitment "to strengthen its grip on all its territories".
The decision paves the way for the resumption of the "land ownership settlement" process, which has been frozen since Israel's occupation of the West Bank in 1967.
