Member of Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Aqib Ardiansyah supports the steps of the Ministry of Environment (KLH) which will sue a warehouse owned by PT Biotek Saranatama following the pesticide liquid polluting the Jeletreng River, a tributary of Cisadane, in South Tangerang.

According to him, this pollution is not just an accident but evidence of negligence if it is proven that the warehouse does not have a Waste Water Treatment Plant (IPAL).

"If it is true that the Minister of LH found that the warehouse does not have a water supply, then this is no longer just an accident, but a fatal negligence that is structural," Aqib told reporters, Saturday, February 14.

According to Aqib, companies that manage hazardous chemicals, such as pesticides, are required to have strict environmental management systems in accordance with Law Number 32 of 2009 concerning Environmental Protection and Management.

"The absence of IPAL is proof of a violation of the AMDAL or UKL-UPL commitment which should be a condition of operation," he said.

The PAN Faction's Commission XII spokesperson also supported the government's decisive steps to enforce discipline against companies that do not comply with regulations. "We, the PAN Faction in Commission XII, support the LH Ministry's bold steps for this discipline," said Aqib.

Aqib also emphasized that this case should be an important lesson for all companies that manage hazardous chemicals. He emphasized that factory waste cannot be thrown carelessly into rivers, especially those close to residential areas.

"This is an important lesson. Chemical warehouses must have a capable containment system. So, in emergency conditions such as fires, the residual water from the fire extinguishing which has been contaminated with poison should not be thrown away or flow freely into public channels, let alone into rivers," he concluded.

Previously, Minister of Environment and Forestry Hanif Faisol Nurofiq said that his party did not see any IPAL in the pesticide building owned by PT Biotek Saranatama which was suspected to be the cause of the Cisadane River being polluted.

"I don't see the IPAL," said Faisol Nurofiq when reviewing the pesticide warehouse in Taman Tekno, Serpong, Banten, Friday, February 13.
