MATARAM - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of West Nusa Tenggara Province (NTB) reported that heavy rain had caused river overflows and flooded settlements on the slopes of Mount Tambora, Bima Regency.
"A total of 23 houses consisting of 23 heads of households or 69 people were affected by the flood," said the Head of BPBD NTB Sadimin in a report in Mataram, Antara, Monday, February 9.
The flood occurred at around 14.35 WITA on Sunday. The disaster was caused by the delivery of water from the mountainous area, so that the river water discharge increased drastically and overflowed into the residents' settlements. Sadimin said the flood location is located in Oi Panihi Village, Tambora District, Bima Regency. Oi Panihi Village is located northwest of Mount Tambora.
"Other material losses, such as damage to public infrastructure and agricultural land owned by residents, are currently in the process of data collection," he said.
Furthermore, Sadimin said that the urgent needs needed by the affected residents at this time are logistical assistance.
BPBD NTB has carried out intensive coordination with the Bima Regency BPBD and other stakeholders regarding the handling of the flood disaster.
The joint team consisting of personnel from the Bima Regency BPBD, TNI/POLRI, sub-district and village apparatus, Tagana, and local residents has descended to the location to conduct a quick assessment and emergency handling.
According to Sadimin, reporting efforts and information dissemination continue to be carried out to ensure that the handling is effective.
BPBD NTB appeals to the public to increase vigilance because the area of West Nusa Tenggara is currently in the peak period of the rainy season which has the potential to trigger hydrometeorological disasters, such as floods, landslides, and strong winds.
"Residents are expected to pay attention to environmental cleanliness and monitor the flow of water in their respective areas as an early anticipation measure," concluded Sadimin.
Based on the forecast of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), rainfall is still high in West Nusa Tenggara in early February 2026 with the possibility of heavy rain in most areas of Lombok, Sumbawa, to Bima.
BMKG also estimates the chance of heavy rain occurring during the period of 1-10 February 2026 or the first week of February, namely above 100 millimeters per dasarian by 50 to 70 percent.
The areas that are potentially experiencing moderate to heavy rain include most of North Lombok Regency, part of East Lombok Regency, a small part of Central Lombok Regency, part of Sumbawa Regency, and part of Bima Regency in the north.
