GARUT - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Garut Regency stated that two tourists from Bandung died of drowning in Curug Rahong, Garut Regency, West Java.

Head of Prevention and Preparedness of Garut Regency BPBD, Tubagus Agus Sofyan, said the tourists who were found dead in Rahong Waterfall were identified as Davin (17) and Sopian Rizki (17) who were students from Pameungpeuk District, Bandung Regency.

"The victim of the water accident that resulted in his death has been found and taken to the Cisewu Health Center," he said, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, June 1.

Tubagus said the incident began when the two victims and their friends returned for recreation from Rancabuaya Beach, Garut Regency.

After the tour, they returned to Bandung. However, the two victims took the time to capture photos of the Curug Rahong area. While taking a selfie, the victim slipped and fell the farthest into the water.

"The victim first stopped at Curug Rahong to just 'selfie', but slipped and got into the whirlpool," he said.

Tubagus said joint officers from elements of the TNI, Polri, and local community volunteers, after receiving the information, immediately searched for the two victims.

Sopian Rizki was the first victim who was found dead. Not long after, another victim, Davin, was found in the same condition, dead.

Tubagus appealed to the public and tourists to always be vigilant and careful when in water attractions, because the potential for danger is quite high.
