TAPANULI SELATAN - Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian asked the regional government to immediately form a special data collection team to clean up and validate the data of residents affected by disasters. Accurate data is considered the key to ensuring that government assistance is targeted and timely.

Tito, who also serves as Chairman of the Post-disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Acceleration Task Force, said that the assistance scheme for disaster victims is quite diverse, ranging from temporary housing, housing waiting funds, to other social assistance. Therefore, a team in the area is needed to focus on direct data collection in the field.

"The local government must form a team to conduct data collection, whether from the BPD, Social Service, or a special team," said Tito when inaugurating the Danantara Temporary Housing in the disaster-affected area in South Tapanuli, North Sumatra, Thursday, February 5.

According to him, data collection is needed to determine the rights of each citizen, whether they occupy temporary housing, live with their families, rent a house, or receive other assistance schemes that have been prepared by the government.

He emphasized that the central government could not disburse assistance without complete and validated data because all budgets were sourced from state finances which must be administratively and legally accountable. "Because this is state money that needs to be accounted for," he said.

Tito also reminded that the delay in the submission of data from the local government would have a direct impact on the community. Regions that have not submitted data risk making their citizens not included in the list of recipients of assistance.

"If the data is not given to us for two weeks, I will leave," he said.

To ensure the accuracy of the data, the central government involves the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in the verification process, including sending officers directly to the field. This step is taken to prevent duplicate data and targeting errors.

He added that the assistance budget had been prepared and was ready to be executed by BNPB and related ministries. Therefore, the completeness of data from the local government is a determining factor for accelerating the distribution of assistance.

Through the formation of a data collection team, Tito hopes that the local government can move faster, orderly, and accountable so that all affected residents can get their rights without missing anyone.
