TANGERANG - Flooding is still submerging two residential areas in Periuk District, Tangerang City, Banten. As of Monday, January 26, the water has not receded and has entered the fourth day since it first hit.

The two areas that were most severely affected were Periuk Damai Housing and Mutiara Pluit Housing. In Periuk Damai, the water level is still ranging from 1 to 3.5 meters in a number of points, even almost covering the roofs of residents' houses.

The flood was caused by the overflow of water from Situ Bulakan which until now is still accommodating high water discharge. This condition is exacerbated by a levee that is not yet fully permanent and has been breached after heavy rain hit the area.

Based on local residents' data, as many as 286 families (KK) or around 960 people in the Periuk Damai Housing were affected by the flood which spread across five RT.

Meanwhile, in the Mutiara Pluit housing, 431 households with 580 people were affected, and most of the residents had evacuated to evacuation sites provided by the government.

One of the residents of Periuk Damai, Aster said, this year's flood was much worse than the previous year. He and his family were forced to evacuate to the school building because his house was submerged almost to the roof.

"The water has reached the roof, it is estimated to be about four meters. This year is worse than last year," Aster told reporters, Monday (26/1/2026).

He added that the breach of the Situ Bulakan embankment was the main trigger for the flood after heavy rains hit the area since Friday (23/1/2026) early morning at around 03.00 WIB.

"We all fled, there were small children as well. Many things could not be brought such as refrigerators and mattresses," he said.

Until now, joint officers from BPBD, TNI, Polri, and volunteers are still on standby at the flood site. A number of rubber boats are prepared to help evacuate residents, while a communal kitchen is set up to distribute food logistics assistance.

Residents hope that the local government will immediately normalize the Situ Bulakan and permanently repair the embankment so that the floods that often hit the area do not continue to recur every rainy season.
