JAKARTA - The Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy (KSAL) Admiral TNI Muhammad Ali confirmed that 23 Marine personnel were victims of a landslide disaster that occurred in Cisarua, West Bandung, West Java.

"There are 23 members of the Marines who are buried, landslides. Currently, only 4 people have been found in a dead state and the others have not been found," said Ali as reported by ANTARA, Monday, January 26.

Ali said the Marine soldier was in the area to conduct training for the preparation of the assignment to secure the Indonesian and Papua New Guinea border areas.

While the personnel were practicing, the location happened to be rained on for two days.

"Maybe that's what caused the landslide, and it hit a village and it happened to be that our soldiers were training there," Ali said.

Ali continued that until now the ranks of the Indonesian Navy were looking for other soldiers who were victims of landslides in Cisarua.

His party has deployed heavy equipment and drones to speed up the process of evacuating the victims.

To note, the West Bandung Regency Government has determined the status of Emergency Disaster Response through Decree Number 100.3.3.2/Kep.25-BPBD/2026 which is valid from January 24 to February 6, 2026.

Meanwhile, the joint SAR team consisting of BPBD, Basarnas, TNI-Polri, Social Services, Tagana, and other related elements is still continuing the search for missing victims and handling the impact of the disaster at the scene.
