Police Speak Out, Determination of the Suspect Husband of the Sleman Jambret Victim

SLEMAN - Polresta Sleman spoke up regarding the determination of the status of a suspect against Hogi Minaya (43), the husband of the victim of a pickpocket incident that occurred on Solo Street, Maguwoharjo, Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region, on April 26, 2025 at around 05.30 WIB. This case has become the focus of public attention after his story went viral on social media and sparked a debate about the elements of self-defense and traffic negligence.

The incident began when Arsita (39), Hogi's wife, was a victim of a snatching when riding a motorcycle after returning from Pathuk Market. The victim's bag was snatched by two perpetrators who then fled.

Knowing the incident, Hogi tried to chase the perpetrator using a car. During the pursuit, the perpetrator's motorcycle had an accident and hit a wall, causing both of them to die.

The police stated that the robbery case was stopped because the two perpetrators died. However, the traffic accident case was still continued by the Sleman Police Traffic Unit.

Sleman Police Chief Kombes Pol Edy Setyanto Erning Wibowo explained that the determination of the suspect status for Hogi was carried out after going through a long process. The police have examined a number of witnesses, expert witnesses, and conducted a case study for approximately 2 to 3 months.

According to him, the criminal element in the traffic accident case was considered to have been met.

"Although investigators have tried to bridge the communication through their respective legal advisers, a peaceful agreement has not been reached," Edy said in his statement, Sunday, January 25.

The Police Chief confirmed that the police had taken restorative justice efforts, but because no agreement was reached, the case continued in accordance with the provisions of the law.

In the process of handling the case, the police said that all procedures had been carried out professionally, starting from processing the crime scene, collecting evidence, examining witnesses, to the title of the case.

"Investigators have handed over the suspects and evidence to the prosecutor's office for the next steps," said Edy.

Although he has been named a suspect, Hogi has not been detained. He was given the status of a city detainee and is required to report regularly at the Sleman Police.

The determination of the suspect status for Hogi has raised questions among the public. Some of the public consider Hogi's actions as an attempt to defend himself and save his property, but legally it is considered to have an element of negligence when driving a vehicle.

Arsita's heart pouring out on social media regarding her husband's legal status also went viral. She voiced her sense of justice and hoped for further consideration of the case that befell her family.

Until now, the case is still ongoing and has become a public concern, especially regarding the application of law in emergency situations involving crime victims.
