JAKARTA - The steps taken by the South East Sulawesi Provincial Government (Pemprov Sultra) in disciplining and withdrawing regional assets that are still controlled by other parties have received appreciation and support from government governance observers.
Sultra public policy observer, Syamsul Anam, who is also a lecturer at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Halu Oleo University, assessed that the effort to discipline assets carried out by the South Sulawesi Provincial Government was a right and strategic step in improving clean, transparent, and accountable government governance.
"The crackdown on regional assets is an important foundation in building an integrity government. What the South Sulawesi Provincial Government has done shows a real commitment to enforcing the rules and ensuring that state assets are used as much as possible for the benefit of the community," he said in a written statement Sunday, January 25.
According to him, the assets owned by the local government are not personal rights, so anyone who still controls the assets without a valid legal basis must return them. The possession of regional assets by parties who are not entitled has the potential to damage the principles of good governance.
He also supports that the regulation of regional assets is carried out consistently and sustainably for all assets of the South Sulawesi Provincial Government that are still controlled by other parties.
"I think this is good and we need to support it. If regional assets are successfully disciplined and reused, the impact will be immediately felt by the community, both for public services and other social interests," he said.
Previously, the South Sulawesi Provincial Government asked for the evacuation of state houses and warehouses belonging to the region on Jalan Ahmad Yani, which were still controlled by the former Governor of South Sulawesi Nur Alam, even though the occupancy permit for the assets was recorded in the name of another party.
This disciplinary step was taken as a follow-up to the recommendation of the South Sulawesi Representative of the Financial Audit Agency (BPK) and the commitment to prevent corruption through the Monitoring, Controlling, Surveillance for Prevention (MCSP) system of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), especially in the management of regional property.
Meanwhile, the lawyer for Nur Alam's family, Andre Darmawan, stated that the building was originally a service house that had been occupied since Nur Alam's term as governor and had a valid Occupancy Permit (SIP), and was in the process of submitting a General Disposition Memo (DUM). They assessed that the enforcement should be through a clear administrative process including the official revocation of the SIP, not direct execution, and wanted a persuasive dialogue to resolve this dispute.
