JAKARTA - Police have disciplined the illegal tin ore mining activity located in the waters of Mentok Wharf, West Bangka, Bangka Belitung Province (Babel).
"The crackdown on illegal mining activities in the Tanjung Fishing Port area which is included in the Limbung Waters was carried out following up on community reports and news on social media regarding mining activities in the area," said Head of Public Relations Section of West Bangka Police, Iptu Yos Sudarso in Mentok, Friday, quoted by Antara.
The crackdown was carried out as a form of a quick response by the West Bangka Police to the public's unrest, especially fishermen because mining activities in waters whose location is adjacent to the fishing port are quite disturbing.
"The appeal today we convey in a humanistic way," he said.
The enforcement activity was started with a consolidation appeal at the Mentok Police and continued with the shift of troops to the West Bangka Police Sat Polairud Mako.
The personnel then gathered the miners and the surrounding community to give them a warning to stop mining activities at the location.
During the crackdown, officers found around 40 to 50 pontoons, both manual and tower types, parked in the Limbung Waters. All miners were given a warning to vacate the waters because mining activities were considered to pollute the sea, damage the nets, and hinder the paths and activities of fishermen operating around the fish port.
"This is a step of discipline and a firm warning, we ask that there be no more mining activities, both day and night, in the waters. If you have legality in the form of a Work Order (SPK), mining activities are only allowed to use PIP units of the tower type, in accordance with the applicable operational standards and provisions," he said.
In addition to the appeal on land, personnel from the West Bangka Police Polairud Unit also carried out a search and appeal through the sea route using a patrol boat to miners who were still on the pontoon.
The location of the crackdown is in the IUP area of PT Timah Tbk, so supervision will continue to be carried out on an ongoing basis to prevent the re-emergence of illegal mining activities.
After the appeal was made, the miners immediately pulled the pontoon away from the area.
"This is the first and last crackdown, we will take firm action against mining activities operating in the waters," he said.
