JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that peace and stability are the most valuable assets for a country, as well as the main prerequisite for growth and prosperity, in his speech at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, Thursday local time.

"In times of uncertainty, times when wars continue to erupt, times when trust between countries is increasingly fragile, history teaches us that peace and stability are the most valuable assets. Peace and stability are the main prerequisites for growth and prosperity. There will be no prosperity without peace," said Prabowo as quoted by ANTARA.

Prabowo said that the world today faces a challenging condition, marked by the continued occurrence of conflicts and the weakening of trust between countries, institutions, and nations.

In this context, the President emphasized that there would be no prosperity without peace, and stability was an important foundation for long-term economic development.

In his speech, the President also touched on the International Monetary Fund (IMF) assessment which described Indonesia as one of the bright spots of the global economy.

The assessment is based on Indonesia's economic performance which remains strong amid external pressures, including trade tensions, tightening global financial conditions, and international political uncertainties.

Prabowo explained that Indonesia's economy has recorded growth of more than 5 percent per year over the past decades.

The President is optimistic that economic growth this year will be higher, with inflation remaining at around 2 percent and the government's budget deficit successfully suppressed below 3 percent.

According to the President, the international institution's recognition of Indonesia's economic resilience is not based on unfounded optimism, but on evidence of real economic performance.

Prabowo assessed that the national economic policy has been formulated and implemented in a calibrated manner.

Prabowo also emphasized that the peace and stability maintained in Indonesia for years did not happen by chance or due to luck.

This condition, according to him, is the result of the choice of the Indonesian nation to prioritize unity over fragmentation, as well as friendship and collaboration over confrontation.

"Peace and stability in Indonesia for years did not happen by chance. Nor did it happen because of luck. It happened because we, the Indonesian people, have always and will continue to choose unity over fragmentation, friendship and collaboration over confrontation. Credibility, once lost, is very expensive to restore," he said.

The World Economic Forum is a world-class meeting that has been held annually since 1971 in Davos, Switzerland.

The economic forum brings together experts, experts, practitioners, economists, academics, and world leaders in the same event to discuss the current economic challenges and the projection of future economic challenges.
