Warning of Extreme Weather Today, Heavy Rain with Lightning Potentially Occur in Several Cities

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reminded the public of the potential for heavy to very heavy rain accompanied by lightning in a number of regions in Indonesia on Thursday, January 15.

BMKG weather practitioner Muhammad Rizky was quoted by Antara Jakarta, Thursday, January 15, saying that the areas that need to be aware of this potential are Lampung, Banten, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, East Kalimantan, and Papua.

Rizky said that for western Indonesia, it is necessary to be aware of the potential for lightning in Bandar Lampung, Jakarta, Banjarmasin, and Samarinda.

"Then there is the potential for moderate rain in Pangkal Pinang, Semarang, and Yogyakarta," he said, Thursday morning.

He also mentioned the potential for light rain in most of Sumatra, Java, Palangkaraya, and Tanjung Selor. In addition, he said, there was the potential for cloudy weather in Tanjung Pinang and Pontianak, as well as the potential for hazy weather in Aceh.

In the eastern part of Indonesia, he said, it is necessary to be aware of the potential for lightning in Denpasar, moderate rain in Nabire and Merauke.

"There is also the potential for light rain in Mataram, parts of Sulawesi, Ambon, Jayapura, and Jayawijaya," he said.

Then there is also the potential for cloudy and thick clouds in Manado, Ternate, Kupang, Gorontalo, and Sorong, as well as the potential for hazy air in Palu and Manokwari.
