JAKARTA - The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) together with a number of related stakeholders is currently studying the recruitment mechanism for teachers and education personnel at the four new Garuda Schools that will operate in 2026.
At least a number of institutions such as the State Civil Service Agency (BKN), the Ministry of State Apparatus and Bureaucratic Reform (KemenPANRB), the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture (Kemenko PMK), and the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) are involved.
"We are currently coordinating with BKN, the Ministry of PANRB, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Education," said the Secretary of the Directorate General of Science and Technology (Sesditjen Saintek) of the Ministry of Science and Technology M Samsuri, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, January 14.
Samsuri said there were at least two options in the procurement of teachers and education personnel at the four new Garuda Schools that would operate.
One of them, he said, was through the mutation method of teachers who are experts in their fields to teach at the Garuda School.
"Then the second one will be the new recruitment process. These are options that may be discussed, yes," he said.
Previously, Garuda School was a school with additional strengthening of the pre-university curriculum with a boarding system equivalent to the high school level, which prioritizes a learning approach based on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
Garuda School graduates are prepared to be able to continue their studies at the world's top universities both at home and abroad.
Until 2029, the Indonesian Government targets at least 20 new Garuda Schools to be built in various regions in Indonesia. This year there are at least four new Garuda School locations expected to operate, namely in East Belitung (Bangka Belitung), South Central Timor (East Nusa Tenggara), and South Konawe (South Sulawesi), as well as Bulungan (North Kalimantan)
To strengthen these efforts, the Indonesian Government targets to be able to nurture 80 Garuda Transformation Schools.
Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Wamendiktisaintek) Stella Christie said the Garuda School is the realization of President Prabowo Subianto's big vision to bring Indonesian children, from all corners of the country, to the best campus in the world.
"Garuda School is an effort by the government to expand access to superior, inclusive education. It is a way to nurture science and technology talent from children who have excelled from all corners of the country," said Wamendiktisaintek Stella Christie.
