JAKARTA - Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin has accelerated the construction of houses for health workers and medical personnel affected by disasters in the Sumatra region so that the recovery of post-disaster health services is more optimal.
Budi said that the health sector continued to move under the coordination of the central government in handling disasters. The government targets that health services can return to full operation, but many health workers have not been able to return to work optimally because their homes are also affected by disasters.
"How can health workers work normally if their own homes are not normal," said Budi when confirmed in Jakarta, Tuesday, quoted by Antara.
He added that although some health service facilities had begun to recover, the living conditions of health workers were still a determining factor in the readiness of services.
Deputy IV of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Jarwansyah said that BNPB had received data from the Ministry of Health regarding health workers and medical personnel affected by disasters in three provinces in Sumatra.
"Data on health workers and medical personnel affected with details in Aceh as many as 3,050 units, in North Sumatra 48 units, and in West Sumatra 167 units, with a total of 3,265 units of houses," said Jarwansyah.
The data will be followed up through the verification process by the BNPB team together with the rehabilitation and reconstruction team at the district and city levels so that it can be included in the BNPB Decree in each region. For a number of areas, such as Central Aceh, field verification has been carried out.
Regarding the assistance scheme, BNPB divided the affected houses into three categories of damage, namely light, medium, and heavy. The stimulus assistance is provided in the amount of Rp. 15 million for light damaged houses, Rp. 30 million for medium damage, and Rp. 60 million for heavy damage in the form of house construction.
The distribution of assistance is carried out gradually in areas whose data have been declared ready. For rental houses, assistance is given to the owner of the house.
Special Staff to the Minister of Home Affairs Wahyu Bintono Hari Bawono emphasized that post-disaster recovery must be carried out comprehensively, including ensuring that health workers have stable living conditions.
"The recovery of health services is not only about facilities, but also ensuring that health workers have decent housing," he said.
