Target MRT to Old City to Operate in 2029, Pramono: I Ask On Schedule

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung encourages the acceleration of the completion of the Jakarta MRT project to the Old City area. He targets the entire MRT Jakarta phase 2A series from HI Roundabout to the Old City to start operating in 2029.

Pramono said that currently the main focus of the DKI Provincial Government is to complete the construction of the Jakarta MRT, especially on the continuation segment to the Old City. In the near future, the project will enter an important phase.

"Now our concentration is completing the MRT. Maybe, if it's not in these weeks or next week, we will start groundbreaking for the MRT in Duta Merlin for the next work until the Old City," said Pramono in Central Jakarta, Thursday, January 8.

Pramono admitted that he had asked the MRT Jakarta management to ensure that all stages of construction could be carried out according to schedule, even if it was possible to be faster.

Pramono explained that the operation of the Jakarta MRT would be carried out gradually. For the Monas segment, he targeted full operation to be carried out in 2027 and continued to the Old City in 2029.

"If it is done, my hope, and I have asked the MRT Director to be on schedule or better," he said.

Apart from the MRT, Pramono also touched on the arrangement of the Pasar Baru area which will be integrated with the development of the Monas area and its surroundings. According to him, the development of Pasar Baru will be carried out after the MRT construction in the area is completed, even some of the work can start earlier.

"Well, what about Pasar Baru? Because Pasar Baru will be a development from TOD Monas, then after it is completed, even before that we will definitely work on it," said Pramono.

"So, in the middle of this year, we will clean it up and we will work on Pasar Baru, Glodok, Chinatown, and also Old Town," he continued.

On the other hand, the DKI Provincial Government will implement traffic engineering in the Jakarta MRT Phase 2A CP 203 construction area starting January 10, 2026. This traffic arrangement is carried out to support the continuation of construction work on underground stations and tunnels in the Kota-Glodok segment.

Corporate Secretary Division Head of PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) Rendy Primartantyo explained, CP 203 is one of the main work packages in Phase 2A which includes the construction of Glodok Station and Kota Station, as well as a tunnel of 690 meters with a total line of about 1.4 kilometers from Mangga Besar to Kota Tua.

"Starting January 10, 2026, traffic engineering will be carried out in the construction area of MRT Jakarta CP 203. This needs to be done as part of the MRT Jakarta construction work phase," said Rendy.

Traffic engineering in the Kota Station area will take place from January 10 to July 15, 2026. The work area is located around the intersection of Jalan Pintu Besar Selatan and Jalan Asemka.

In addition to the city area, traffic engineering is also still in force in the Glodok Station construction area with a contraflow configuration, where two-way traffic uses Jalan Gajah Mada.

"The implementation time for this phase, which was originally from September 21, 2025 to March 12, 2026, will be extended until July 13, 2026," said Rendy.
