JAKARTA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) stated that flooding followed the soaking of five sub-districts in East Aceh Regency, Aceh Province, due to heavy rainfall.
Acting Head of the East Aceh Regency BPBD Afifullah said that the heavy rainfall since Wednesday, January 7 evening, caused the river water to overflow in the flood-affected area.
"The heavy rainfall caused the river to overflow again. The water level reached the height of an adult in some locations," he said in East Aceh, quoted by Antara, Thursday.
A total of five sub-districts were flooded as a result, namely Pante Bidari, Indra Makmu, Banda Alam, Julok, and Rantau Selamat.
This condition causes community activities to be paralyzed again.
A number of village roads, he said, were reported to be flooded so that it was difficult for residents to carry out activities, including going to work and school.
"Flooding not only submerges residential areas, but also inter-district road access, as well as a number of public facilities. This follow-up flood also has an impact on economic activity and community mobility," he said.
He explained that this subsequent flood occurred when part of East Aceh was still in the post-disaster recovery phase at the end of November 2025.
"A number of residents had to clean their houses and neighborhoods, now they have to face the floodwaters that have entered their houses," said Afifullah.
The East Aceh Regency BPBD together with related elements has sent a team to the field to monitor and record the impact of the subsequent flood in the five sub-districts as well as ensure the safety of residents in the affected areas.
The joint team of BPBD and other related agencies has also been alerted to evacuate if the water level continues to rise and threatens the safety of the community.
"We continue to monitor the affected areas. If the water continues to rise, evacuation will be carried out immediately, especially for vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and pregnant women," he said.
He appealed to the public, especially those living in flood-prone areas and along the riverbanks, to remain vigilant.
The public is also asked to continue to monitor weather developments and immediately report to the village authorities or BPBD officers if there is a significant increase in water levels.
"The safety of residents is the top priority. We appeal to the public not to force activities in flooded areas and always follow the instructions of officers in the field," said Afifullah.
