JAKARTA - Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Handling Task Force Wiku Adisasmito said there was an increase in the filling of isolation beds for COVID-19 patients at referral hospitals after the Eid holiday.

Nationally, the number of COVID-19 bed fills increased by 14.2 percent. This increase starts from May 20 to 26, 2021.

There are five provinces that experienced the greatest increase in the use of beds, namely DKI Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, Banten, and DIY.

"Both nationally and in these 5 provinces, the use of isolation beds has increased. The increase shows variations, but all of them show an increasing trend over the past 5 to 6 days", Wiku said in a YouTube broadcast of the Presidential Secretariat's channel, Friday, May 28.

Wiku said, on May 20, the number of used isolation room beds in all COVID-19 referral hospitals in Indonesia was 20.560 beds.

"However, this number increased to 23.488 beds on May 26", he said.

Wiku also explained that the increase in occupancy in the five most contributing provinces, all of them are in Java Island. DKI Jakarta experienced 23.7 percent of occupancy from the previous 3.108 on May 21, to 3.846 on May 26.

West Java experienced an increase of 20.3 percent, from the previous 3.003 on May 20 to 3.615 filled isolation beds on May 26.

Central Java experienced an increase of 23.13 percent from the previous one on May 20 of 2.567 to 3.161 filled isolation beds on May 26.

Banten experienced an increase of 21.2% from the previous one on May 20 of 816 to 959 filled isolation beds on May 26

Then the Special Region of Yogyakarta experienced an increase of 18.18 percent from the previous 495 on May 21 to 585 filled isolation beds on May 26.

Wiku said that the increase in bed filling at the COVID-19 referral hospital indicated an increase in COVID-19 cases also occurred in patients with moderate to severe symptoms, so they needed an isolation room.

"This is a strong alarm for all of us, especially for the provinces on the island of Java", said Wiku.

"Although we cannot fully see the data in the second week of Idul Fitri holiday, both positive cases, active cases, population mobility back to Jabodetabek and the use of beds in isolation rooms have begun to show an upward trend", he concluded.
