JAKARTA - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka reviewed the legislative and judicial areas in the Capital of Nusantara (IKN), East Kalimantan, Wednesday, and targeted the completion of the project in December 2027.

Gibran explained that the construction of the legislative and judicial complex in IKN is part of the escort of the development of the state institutional center in the new capital.

"The construction of the legislative and judicial complex has begun in early December 2025 and is targeted to be completed in December 2027, in order to ensure that the institutional functions of the state can run effectively and support the process of state decision-making," Gibran said in a written statement, quoted by Antara, Thursday, January 1.

Gibran's review of the legislative and judicial areas is carried out in line with the government's commitment under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto.

This is mandated in Presidential Regulation Number 79 of 2025 concerning the Update of the Government Work Plan for 2025, which targets the realization of Nusantara as the Political Capital in 2028.

Meanwhile, the Director of Facilities and Infrastructure of the IKN Authority, Cakra Negara, explained that the legislative area was designed as a center for distributing people's aspirations through the Democracy Plaza, a public open space that allows the public to convey aspirations directly as part of the principle of people's sovereignty.

"The plenary session building in the legislative area has a capacity of 1,500 seats, adjusted to future needs, including the potential for adding the number of legislative members," he said.

In addition to the plenary court room, this area is also equipped with a commission court room, a small court room, and other supporting facilities to support the legislative process and decision-making of the state.

During the review, the Vice President also saw the plan to develop a judicial area which includes the Supreme Court (MA), the Constitutional Court (MK), and the Judicial Commission (KY).

Each building is designed with a special philosophy, including four pillars on the MA which symbolizes the four judicial environments, nine pillars on the Supreme Court which represent the spiritual values and synergy of judges, and seven pillars on the KY which reflect the role of supervision of the chief justice.

"The capacity of the courtroom in this judicial area varies, ranging from 60 to 800 people," said Cakra.

Accompanying the Vice President in this review were the Head of the IKN Authority Basuki Hadimuljono, Deputy Minister of Public Works Diana Kusumastuti and East Kalimantan Governor Rudy Mas'ud.
