JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump said the recent US attack hit a dock area in Venezuela that was allegedly used to load drug-carrying ships.
Speaking to reporters ahead of his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, on Monday, December 29, Trump said the target of the attack was a coastal facility where narcotics were prepared to be transported by sea.
"We hit all the boats, and now we are hitting the area," Trump said, quoted by Anadolu via Antara.
Trump called the location an operational area that no longer exists.
However, Trump did not specify which US agency launched the attack on the Venezuelan docks. However, he said that he knew who was responsible, but did not want to reveal it. He added that the location was along the coastline.
When asked if he had recently spoken to Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, Trump said he had indeed spoken to him recently, but added that not much had come out of the talks.
The Venezuelan government has not commented on the conversation or the alleged US attack.
Trump had previously alluded to an operation against Venezuela in a radio interview on Friday, saying the US attacked a large factory or large facility linked to alleged drug trafficking, without naming the location or providing further details.
The statement comes amid an increase in US military operations in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific since September, which is said to be part of efforts to eradicate the drug trade. At least 105 people have been reported killed in 29 attacks.
The military operation also coincided with increased US pressure on Venezuela, including the blocking of oil tankers, seizure of ships, and increased military presence near Venezuelan waters.
The Venezuelan government condemned the measures as a form of "international piracy."
