Yellow Noodles Containing Formalin Found in Kebayoran Lama Market

JAKARTA - Yellow noodles with the content of the harmful substance formalin were found in Kebayoran Lama Market. After finding the findings, the South Jakarta Administration City Government (Pemkot) took action and coordinated with BBPOM.

"Raw yellow noodles have been indicated to contain harmful substances. It just so happens that the supplier of the noodles comes from Kebayoran Lama Market," said the Mayor of South Jakarta, Muhammad Anwar at the Santa Market in Jakarta, Monday, December 22, 2025.

Anwar ensured coordination with officers and the National Agency for Food and Drug Monitoring (BBPOM) to monitor formalin to ensure the safety of food ingredients so that they are not consumed by the public.

"Therefore, I have instructed officers to immediately check the location of the distributor today so that the circulation does not spread everywhere," he said.

If later found to have criminal elements, his party will not hesitate to report it to the police.

"If there are criminal elements, we will hand it over to the police," he said.

However, if the level of error can still be trained, then it will be trained by the BPOM.

Head of the Food, Marine and Agriculture Directorate (KPKP) South Jakarta, Ridho Sosro added, supervision is focused on the detection of food containing harmful substances, such as formalin, borax, "metanil yellow" and rhodamin B.

"We are also accompanied by food supervisors from the Police so that later if there are food ingredients that violate the rules, they will be investigated further, even if they can be affected by the law," he said.

In 2025, the South Jakarta KPKP Sub-Directorate has carried out supervision and monitoring in 28 markets, both traditional and modern in 10 sub-districts throughout South Jakarta.

The supervision was carried out twice in one year with a total target of 728 samples, consisting of 616 agricultural samples and 112 livestock samples.

Food supervision is carried out to ensure that agricultural and livestock products circulating in the market are safe for consumption by the public, including checking the content of pesticide residues, formalin, borax, other harmful substances as well as testing the quality of animal products.

Pesticide residue tests aim to determine the content of chemical substances that may remain in agricultural products. Meanwhile, the formalin and chlorine tests ensure that no harmful preservatives are used in the processing and storage of food.
