TANGERANG SOUTH - The South Tangerang City Government, Banten, has accelerated the arrangement of the Cipeucang Final Disposal Site (TPA) in Serpong by adding a landfill facility or a new waste storage location to overcome the problem of limited capacity.
The Mayor of South Tangerang, Benyamin Davnie, said that the addition of the landfill facility was carried out by opening a new road access to the waste storage location in the Cipeucang landfill area.
"The entrance is being worked on by friends from the PU Office. And it will be completed maybe two days later," said Benjamin in South Tangerang, Antara, Monday, December 22.
He said that in the next two to three days a number of supporting facilities would be completed so that they could be used to store waste that had previously been hampered by its handling.
In addition to opening access roads, the South Tangerang City Government also increased the capacity of the waste storage location in the landfill area by utilizing a new landfill.
"Wednesday or Thursday is finished. So this road access to landfill 3. Because landfill 1 and 2 can no longer be used. So that's what we're doing," he said.
Benyamin expressed optimism that the waste problem in South Tangerang City could be immediately addressed in the near future. The local government, he said, has prepared a number of short-term and long-term solutions.
One of the strategic steps prepared is waste management based on technology through the construction of waste management facilities into electricity (PSEL).
"I am optimistic that by June 2026, TPA Cipeucang will be ready to be closed. Because we can already use other technologies," said Benyamin.
The South Tangerang City Government hopes that the acceleration of the arrangement of the Cipeucang landfill can be a temporary solution while waiting for the implementation of a waste management system based on technology that is more environmentally friendly and sustainable.
