IKN News, Forest City Approach as a Main Direction for Development

PENAJAM PASER UTARA - There is new news about the Nusantara Capital City (IKN). The IKN Authority confirmed that the development of IKN in parts of Penajam Paser Utara Regency and Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan Province, was carried out through a sustainable development approach based on natural strengths.

"The sustainable development approach based on natural forces is carried out at IKN," said Deputy Head of Environment and Natural Resources at the IKN Authority, Myrna Asnawati Safitri, when asked about the development of IKN in Sepaku, Penajam Paser Utara, reported by ANTARA, Saturday, December 20.

The forest city, he continued, is a nature-based solution towards a sustainable IKN, which is the main direction of development, in line with the commitment to maintain biodiversity as a legacy for future generations.

The IKN Authority proved that the IKN forest was not damaged by releasing a book labeled Portrait of the Nusantara Nature, the result of observations of biodiversity in the IKN area which was documented in the form of photos in the book with 119 pages.

Various species of animals, ranging from Golden Julang, Owa Kelawat, Kubung Malaya to various other fauna, are recorded in the book as a depiction of the richness of the Indonesian archipelago's biodiversity.

Documentation in the book launched by the IKN Authority, he explained, is part of the IKN's mission towards a wildlife-friendly city, with development that prioritizes the balance between humans and nature.

The portrait of the Nusantara Nature was compiled through collaboration between the IKN Authority and the Mandala Katalika Association (MANKA), supported by BurungIndonesia, Burungnesia, and the Nusantara Bird Observation Community in the documentation and field observation process.

"The book marks the achievement of planting trees carried out throughout 2025," he said, as an effort to realize 65 percent of IKN as a tropical forest area that is the foundation for the development of future cities that are in harmony with nature.

"The IKN Authority is committed to maintaining and restoring the environment, as well as strengthening the IKN's commitment as a sustainable forest city by carrying out a number of activities as part of sustainable efforts," said Myrna Asnawati Safitri.
