JAKARTA - Indonesia is ready to send peacekeepers, including joining the International Stabilization Forces (ISF) for the Gaza Strip, Palestine, by prioritizing humanity and a clear mandate, said the spokesperson for the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yvonne Mewengkang, Friday (19/12).

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has approved a Gaza peace resolution, supporting the plan proposed by US President Donald Trump on November 17.

One of the important points of the resolution is the existence of a Board of Peace (BoP) which will later have the ISF with an initial mandate estimated for two years.

Yvonne explained that regarding Indonesia's involvement in ISF, everything was still under technical and comprehensive discussion, including regarding the number of troops, configuration to role.

"It still needs further comprehensive, challenging, and not easy discussions," he said in a meeting with the media in Jakarta, Friday (19/12).

"According to the direction of the President of the Republic of Indonesia at the UN General Assembly, we will send peacekeepers, we will be present to maintain peace, prioritize humanity. Humanitarian missions can enter, sustainable humanitarian access, not hindered anymore, full and permanent access," he said.

"We focus on that. If asked, there are conditions, this is what we say is all technical, still being discussed with various parties, comprehensive discussions," he continued.

"We cannot send our brothers there without a clear mandate, without clear rules of engagement," he said.

Last October, Arab News quoted diplomatic sources as saying that the ISF would consist of Egypt, Indonesia, Turkey and Azerbaijan. Meanwhile, The National quoted a source familiar with the matter as saying that the number of troops to be deployed from the four countries was around 4,000 personnel. However, it was not explained how the number of soldiers from each of the countries mentioned would be divided.

Yvone previously When asked about this, he emphasized that each assignment would follow the decisions and frameworks of the United Nations. He also ensured Indonesia's readiness to participate in affirming the principle of free and active foreign policy.

"This step confirms Indonesia's commitment to continue to play an active role in maintaining peace and helping the reconstruction of Gaza in accordance with the principle of free and active foreign policy and based on international mandates," explained Yvonne.

It is known that so far there has been no mandate from the UN Security Council regarding the details of the ISF, an important point that Indonesia has always emphasized.

"In essence, we hope once again that there will be a clear, clear, impartial mandate and within the framework of peace keeping forces, really in its function to maintain peace," said Foreign Minister Sugiono last month.
