LEBAK - Heavy rain that has hit the southern Lebak Regency, Banten, for the past two days triggered a serious landslide and paralyzed the main access for residents. The village axis road connecting Hegarmanah Village and Sindangratu Village, specifically in Karangsewu Village, Hegarmanah Village, Panggarangan District, experienced landslides in three points.
The landslide caused the road body to collapse with a depth of about 2.5 meters. As a result, the vital path that is usually used by residents for daily activities can hardly be passed.
The landslide occurred on Thursday, December 18 at around 10.00 WIB, when heavy rain was still pouring down on almost all areas of Panggarangan Sub-district.
In Karangsewu Village, the condition of the road damage is quite severe. Some of the road body collapsed so that it was not possible to cross four-wheeled vehicles. Residents are forced to use alternative routes that are further away or walk to penetrate the landslide location.
Panggarangan Police Chief Iptu Acep Komarudin said his party together with related elements immediately checked the location after receiving a report from the community.
According to him, the landslide was triggered by heavy rainfall that had hit the area continuously for the past two days. The unstable soil condition made the road body unable to withstand the water pressure.
"There are three landslide points in the same line. The length of the landslide at each point, namely the first point is about 20 meters, the second point is 15 meters, and the third point is about 25 meters," explained Acep.
He revealed that the impact of the landslide was immediately felt by residents. Until now, the road access can only be passed by two-wheeled vehicles with a high risk level. Four-wheel vehicles cannot pass at all. A number of residents even had to walk to penetrate the path, even though the soil conditions around the location were still prone to movement.
"People can't cross using four-wheeled vehicles. Only two-wheeled vehicles can pass, even that must be extra careful," said Acep.
He added that the police appealed to the public to increase vigilance, especially if heavy rain returns. Residents are asked to avoid landslide locations and use alternative routes for safety.
"We appeal to road users from Hegarmanah to Sindangratu to be careful because the landslide road has not been repaired. For safety, use alternative roads to Hegarmanah Village and Sindangratu Village," he said.
Meanwhile, coordination with the local government continues to be carried out for emergency handling and acceleration of road repairs. In the midst of extreme weather that is still potentially occurring, residents of southern Lebak now hope that their main access will be recovered immediately so that activities and logistics distribution are not further disrupted.
