JAKARTA - The DKI Provincial Government has prepared a draft celebration of New Year's Eve 2026 in Jakarta. However, at this time, the atmosphere of grief that still covers a number of areas in Sumatra due to the disaster of floods and landslides.

Even though the New Year's Eve will still be celebrated, the Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung emphasized that the DKI Provincial Government will not hold a festive and excessive celebration, but a simple and reflective atmosphere.

"What is clear is that Jakarta is not in a state of excitement, luxury. Maybe I will even do things related to emphasizing prayer and so on," said Pramono in Central Jakarta, Thursday, December 18.

Pramono admitted that Jakarta still needs to hold a New Year's reception. According to him, Jakarta's position as the capital and a global city makes every step a spotlight.

"But there must still be a welcome to the new year, because this is Jakarta, this is the capital of the country, and this is what the world sees, what Jakarta will do for it," he said.

Pramono assessed that the moment of the new year is always a concern for the public, even on an international scale. Therefore, Jakarta needs to maintain its image as a global city, even though the celebration is carried out in simplicity.

"Jakarta is the capital of the country, and Jakarta is also a global city. Around the world, the New Year's moment will certainly be compared," he said.

Previously, the DKI Provincial Government planned to install 14 stages along Jalan Jenderal Sudirman-MH Thamrin in the New Year's Eve celebration and 10 points at the district/city level, as held in previous years.

However, in the midst of the flood and landslide disasters that hit Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, Pramono admitted that he had not decided whether to continue to hold the stages.

Pramono said the DKI Provincial Government was still paying attention to the conditions of the disaster-affected areas in Sumatra. He said Jakarta continued to monitor the development of the situation and distribute assistance.

He said that assistance from the DKI Provincial Government was still being sent, including directly to the areas that were the most severely affected.

"Including specifically some cities or regencies that are quite severely affected, we treat them separately, we send them directly to the city/regency concerned," he added.
