JAKARTA - Minister of Housing and Spatial Planning (PKP) Maruarar Sirait stated that the government would build 2,603 houses for flood and landslide survivors in three provinces, namely Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

"As of today, there is readiness to build houses for our brothers and sisters, yes, in West Sumatra, North Sumatra, and Aceh, amounting to 2,603 units," he said after attending a Ministerial Level Meeting at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (Kemenko PMK) Jakarta office, Wednesday, December 17, as reported by ANTARA.

The minister, who is familiarly called Ara, emphasized that the two thousand houses were permanent residences, not temporary residences.

He explained that the construction of permanent housing would begin this month by still prioritizing the principle of caution and compliance with rules, but without hindering the speed of assistance to disaster-affected communities.

His party has coordinated in accordance with the President's instructions so that regulations do not become an obstacle for the state in helping the people.

Therefore, the Ministry of PKP proposed a coordination meeting across law enforcement and supervisory agencies, including the police, prosecutor's office, Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Financial Supervisory Board (BPK), and Financial and Development Supervisory Board (BPKP).

"How can we work properly according to the rules but also quickly. That's why the direction (the President) is for us," he said.

Regarding the relocation location, Ara said that a number of locations had been proposed and continued to be classified based on three main criteria, namely legal certainty of land, technical safety from disaster risks such as floods and landslides, and social-economic feasibility.

"The house is not just the building that was built but the life moved like that, yes. So also think about the location where the children go to school, yes. Think about where their parents work, how to go to the market. So the ecosystem must be a consideration," he said.

He said the funding for the construction of 2,603 houses was not sourced from the State Budget. A total of 2,500 units of houses were supported by the Tzu Chi Buddhist Foundation, while the other 103 units came from his personal funds.

"The funds are non-APBN. From the Tzu Chi Buddhist Foundation 2,500 houses, from me personally 103 houses," said Ara.
