JAKARTA - The Republic of Indonesia and Libya agreed to strengthen cooperation and friendship between the two countries, in the 2nd Joint Committee Meeting on Monday in Jakarta.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Anis Matta led the Indonesian delegation, while his counterpart, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for Migration and Expatriate Affairs Emhamed Saeed Zidan led the Libyan delegation.

On this occasion, the Joint Committee reviewed the development of bilateral relations and discussed steps to increase and develop cooperation in a number of priority areas, including the economy and trade, political and diplomatic coordination, health, technical and vocational education, and investment.

"This is a continuation of the visit to Libya three months ago to revive our relations. In fact, it never broke off at all. But, during the conflict there, we reduced the activities of the embassy there, including we did not place an ambassador, only a business authority," said Indonesian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Anis Matta, Monday (15/12).

"After we saw that the conditions in Libya were much more stable and there was an opportunity to find a peaceful way to build a joint government, we began to reactivate our relations," said the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs.

In a joint statement after the meeting, both parties confirmed their joint commitment to activating existing agreements and memorandums of understanding, expanding the scope of bilateral cooperation, and strengthening communication and synergy between public and private sector institutions, to support common interests and realize sustainable development in both countries.

Both parties welcomed the positive and constructive atmosphere during the Joint Committee meeting, and reaffirmed their commitment to continue to coordinate and follow up on the implementation of the results that have been agreed upon, in line with the strong and close bilateral relations between the Republic of Indonesia and the Libyan State.

At the end of the meeting, the two heads of delegation signed the Communiqué of the 2nd Joint Commission Meeting as well as the Visa Exemption Agreement for holders of diplomatic, service, and special passports, which aims to increase travel convenience for officials of both countries.

Both parties also signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the General Union of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture of the Libyan State, with the aim of increasing economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.
