PADANG - The Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi instructed the West Sumatra Provincial Government (Pemprov) to utilize state land or land owned by SOEs as an area for relocating residents affected by disasters.

"If in the affected areas there are state land or land managed by SOEs, please coordinate in the field if it is indeed needed as a relocation location for residents who are not allowed to return to their original residence," said Mensesneg Prasetyo Hadi to West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi through a telephone connection in Padang City, Monday, December 15, reported by ANTARA.

The instruction of the Minister of Home Affairs is considered as a solution to accelerate the relocation of residents whose land is no longer suitable for habitation. This directive is also a solution in the midst of the limitations of the district/city government in procuring land after the flood and landslide disasters.

The Minister of Home Affairs emphasized that the central government is actively encouraging the acceleration of the relocation of people affected by disasters whose land is no longer habitable, so that they can immediately occupy safer and more suitable locations.

Utilization of state land is a concrete alternative if the area experiences constraints in land acquisition.

"If there is a Business Use Right (HGU) that has not been extended, it can be used. Likewise, land managed by SOEs, please coordinate in the field," said Mensesneg.

He also asked the West Sumatra Provincial Government to immediately coordinate and communicate with the owners or managers of land, including with the district/city governments affected by natural disasters.

"Don't linger. It should be done immediately. I feel sorry for the people who are currently still living in evacuation centers and don't have a house yet," said MensesnegPrasetyo Hadi.

Following up on the direction, West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi stated the readiness of the local government to immediately coordinate with the district/city government, including mapping and ensuring the readiness of residents to be relocated.

"This is a very clear direction. The use of state-owned land and SOEs for the relocation of affected residents is possible, and we will immediately follow up on this through coordination in the field," said Governor Mahyeldi.

Until now, there are four regions that have reported readiness of land for the relocation of disaster-affected residents. The four are South Coast Regency, Agam Regency, Limapuluh Kota Regency, and Padang Pariaman Regency. With the direction of the central government, the relocation process is expected to take place faster.

"We hope that with the certainty and readiness of this land, post-disaster housing development can run simultaneously and provide certainty of a safe and decent place to live for affected people," said Governor Mahyeldi.
