Bamboo Emergency Bridge In Sriharjo Rampung, Bantul Residents Can Now Pass Again

The Bantul Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) said the construction of an emergency bridge made of bamboo in the Srikeminut landslide area, Sriharjo Village, had been completed and was starting to be used by residents.

"Now the emergency bridge from bamboo in Sriharjo has been completed. Yesterday it was tested by residents and has been used for mobility activities," said Bantul BPBD Chief Executive Mujahid Amrudin in Bantul, Antara, Friday, December 12.

The emergency bridge was built as temporary access for residents of Puduhan Wunut and Sompok Sriharjo after the only road access in the area was cut off due to landslides on Friday (21/11).

The 220-meter-long bridge with a width of two meters is part of the handling of the flood and landslide emergency response period set by the Bantul Regency Government from November 21 to December 19, 2025.

With the emergency bridge, the mobility of residents is getting easier, even if it's just for motorbikes. It's not allowed for cars because the width is not possible. For cars we recommend going through the bridge in Selopamioro," said Mujahid.

He explained that the bridge was built at a point that was not prone to landslides, with an elevation of about one meter so that the lower part could be planted with various plants. This bridge is estimated to last up to one year.

Head of Sriharjo Village, Titik Istiawatun Khasanah, said that the emergency bridge had been tested by residents on Thursday (11/12) afternoon. The finishing process by the Bantul Regency Government is still ongoing and is expected to be completed on Friday afternoon.

"God willing, this afternoon the bridge will be usable," he said.

In November, residents had made an emergency road. However, the route is dangerous so it is no longer used after the Bantul Regency Government carried out further handling.

He hopes that the presence of the bamboo emergency bridge can provide security and comfort for passing residents, although in the meantime it can only be used by pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists.
