JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the DPR Sukamta emphasized the need for total reform of the national digital security system through the implementation of a more proactive and integrated Active cyber defense strategy.
He assessed that Indonesia is currently in a digital security emergency due to the increasing cyber attacks on state infrastructure and the rampant disinformation organized on various digital platforms.
"The government must immediately implement zero trust as a national standard, build a cyber defense backbone with BSSN as the sole command, and ensure that forensic audits of cyber incidents are carried out independently and transparently," Sukamta told reporters, Wednesday, December 10.
According to him, the threat of cyber attacks and disinformation cannot be seen as a separate issue, because it is interrelated and has the potential to disrupt national stability.
Repeated cyber attacks, including the PDN incident, and the massive spread of disinformation show that our country does not yet have a solid digital defense system. This is no longer a technical threat, but a threat to the nation's resilience," he said.
Sukamta explained that Indonesia is now facing hybrid threat, which is a combination of technical attacks and information manipulation. He assessed that the government's cybersecurity vulnerability and weak supervision of digital space made it easy for people to become victims of data leaks, hoaxes, and destructive buzzer operations.
The PKS legislator from the DI Yogyakarta electoral district also highlighted the low level of information security facilities in various agencies. Therefore, he asked the government to target all agencies to reach the Level III Information Security Index (KAMI) in the next 12 to 18 months.
Not only technical attacks, Sukamta emphasized that disinformation, deepfakes, and organized buzzer activities are now a serious threat to Indonesia's social and political stability.
"Disinformation must be treated as a national threat. We need to build a national framework for information integrity, an AI-based early detection system, and strengthen digital literacy 2.0 so that people are more resilient in facing digital space manipulation," he said.
He also encouraged the strengthening of regulations through the preparation of the Digital Security/Resilience Law as well as the revision of the ITE Law to include firm arrangements for destructive buzzer operations. According to him, the protection of digital space is not enough to rely solely on the complaint offense mechanism.
Sukamta asked the government to accelerate the development of the Digital Situation Awareness Platform, a national monitoring system capable of detecting public opinion, bot activity, disinformation, and a real-time cyber attack pattern.
"Without an integrated monitoring system, the country will continue to lag behind the growing digital attack pattern very quickly. We need technology at the level of developed countries to protect the people," said Sukamta.
