Chair Of The Head Of PBNU Heats Up, Minister Of Religion Calls For A Settlement Without Splits

Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar hopes that the results of the Plenary Meeting of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Executive Board will be a solution in overcoming the divisions that occur within the largest Islamic organization in Indonesia.

"I came here (pleno) as Deputy Rais Syuriyah PBNU and I am grateful because hopefully this decision can be the best solution," said Nasaruddin, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, December 10.

The Pleno Syuriyah appointed Zulfa Mustofa as PBNU General Chair to replace Yahya Cholil Staquf's position which was removed based on the results of the Syuriyah Daily Meeting some time ago.

Zulfa will lead PBNU in the remaining previous management period or until the congress which will take place in 2026.

Responding to this, Nasaruddin Umar said that NU always has its own way of solving problems. Therefore, as the government, the Ministry of Religion is not involved in managing PBNU's internal relations.

With this decision, the Grand Imam of the Istiqlal Mosque hopes that the burdens of nationality and community can be lighter with the integrity of Islamic organizations.

"Including the integrity of the largest organization in the world is this Nahdlatul Ulama," said Nasaruddin.

Previously, PBNU General Chair Yahya Cholil Staquf considered the PBNU Plenary Meeting invalid and violated the organization's AD/ART.

The rules cannot be called plenary. Because first, only Syuriyah invited and it can't be. Because the plenary session must be invited by Syuriyah and Tanfidizyah. The second does not involve me as the General Chair of the Executive Board," said Gus Yahya.

Gus Yahya said PBNU's plenary Syuriyah was only a political maneuver, especially since he was carrying out organizational transformation. He sees that there are parties who do not like the transformation.

He emphasized that De Facto and De Jure, he will continue to serve as General Chair of PBNU. If you want to remove it, it must go through an organizational AD/ART mechanism, namely a congress.
