JAKARTA The National Awakening Party (PKB) has flicked the Golkar Party proposing a permanent coalition in the midst of the nation's concern over the flood and landslide disaster that has not been handled by Sumatra.
PKB assessed that it is better for all parties to focus on post-disaster management first rather than fuss over dealing with the sustainability of power.
This statement was conveyed by the Chairman of the PKB faction of the DPR, Jazilul Fawaid, in response to the proposal of the General Chair of the Golkar Party, Bahlil Lahadalia, regarding the formation of a permanent coalition that was conveyed in front of President Prabowo Subianto.
"We appreciate the political dynamics, but looking at today's situation, it is better for all parties to focus first on disaster management efforts in Sumatra," said Jazilul Fawaid to reporters, Monday, December 8.
Jazilul also asked all political parties and elements of the nation to prioritize handling floods and landslides in Sumatra rather than discussing the discourse of a permanent coalition.
He considered that the delivery of the discourse was not appropriate in terms of momentum, considering that currently the main concern of the country is the rescue of residents and recovery of disaster-affected areas.
"Almost a thousand people died, hundreds were still missing, and tens of thousands of people lost their homes and live in refugee camps. It doesn't feel right if we fuss over the sustainability of power and a permanent coalition," said the Deputy Chairperson of the PKB.
Jazilul emphasized that the flash floods and landslides in North Sumatra, West Sumatra, and Aceh had caused extensive damage.
Hundreds of kilometers of roads and bridges were cut off, dozens of hospitals and health facilities were no longer functioning, and hundreds of schools were damaged and could not be used for teaching and learning activities.
BNPB even said that the total recovery of affected areas requires a budget of up to IDR 51 trillion.
"In this very tough national situation, all political forces should unite to help the people, instead of debating a permanent or non-permanent coalition," he said.

The legislator from the East Java electoral district also emphasized that the current condition of the coalition of parties supporting the government does not face significant problems. According to Jazilul, no political party has left the policy corridor of President Prabowo Subianto.
"If there is a problem, it is only a matter of communication and can be resolved together. So if there is an overreaction to withdraw it to the issue of coalition commitments to government, in our opinion it is too far away," said Jazilul.
The former deputy chairman of the MPR also appealed that all national resources must be directed to complete an emergency response period, rehabilitation, and reconstruction of the disaster area in Sumatra. In addition to recovery, Jazilul also reminded the potential for extreme weather is still high.
The BMKG said extreme weather would still occur in the near future. All parties must be alert and anticipate the possibility of major hydrometeorological disasters such as those that hit Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra," explained Jazilul.
Jazilul emphasized that PKB will continue to oversee disaster management and ensure that the government pays full attention to victims.
"Our main priority today is the safety of the people and the acceleration of Sumatra's recovery. After that, political affairs can be discussed again in due course," he concluded.
