JAKARTA - The head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Ganip Warsito claimed to have received direct direction from President Joko Widodo after being sworn in at the State Palace this morning.

This he conveyed in the handover ceremony with Doni Monardo who had just retired as Head of BNPB.

Ganip said, Jokowi ordered him to directly take the skills made by Doni during the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and tackling disasters.

"The president gave me orders, the moves used by Mr. Doni were continued. God willing I will adjust soon, that's the order I hold," said Ganip at Graha BNPB, East Jakarta, Tuesday, May 25.

Later, Ganip claimed to be reminded by Jokowi that currently COVID-19 cases in Indonesia are again increasing after the Eid al-Fitr season. There is a potential spike in COVID-19 cases due to high mobility. Ganip was asked to strengthen the implementation of micro PPKM.

"The president gave directions, the condition of COVID-19 crawled up. Therefore, the main key is the implementation of micro PPKM to be tightened, the implementation of 3M and 3T is carried out consistently and fully disciplined," he said.

Ganip sees, carrying out the task at BNPB is quite heavy. Because, according to him, the task at BNPB is not required enough in excellent physical condition, but forced to devote heart and mind when dealing with disaster conditions.

"It's a humanitarian duty that is not only physically required but our hearts and minds are also poured out. because we help our brothers and sisters who are affected by the disaster. From the course of my career, this is the first time I came out of mabes TNI. Maybe it's a life journey that I have to go through," he explained.

Previously known, President Joko Widodo officially appointed Lt. Gen. Ganip Warsito as head of the Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) replacing the retired Doni Monardo.

The inauguration was held at the State Palace on Tuesday, May 25 at around 10:25 a.m. The event continued to follow strict health protocols and attended limited invitations.

Ganip was born in Magelang, November 23, 1963. He graduated from the military academy in 1986 and his last position was Chief of The General Staff of the TNI (Kasum TNI) since February 1, 2021.
