JAKARTA - Russia considers the vote that supports a resolution on repatriation of Ukrainian children at the United Nations General Assembly (UN) to be a support for lies.

The UN General Assembly on Wednesday adopted Resolution A/ES-11/L.16/Rev.1 in a vote with 91 votes in favor, 12 against and 57 abstention votes, quoted from the UN News website (4/12).

The resolution proposed by Ukraine, Denmark, Inggirs, Germany to Canada demands that the Russian Federation ensure immediate, safe and unconditional repatriation of all Ukrainian children who have been transferred or forcibly deported.

The Assembly also urged Moscow to immediately stop these activities, and end family separation practices and "change in personal status (children)" through citizenship, adoption, foster placement, or indoctrination.

Indonesia is among countries that choose abstain, including along with Brazil, China, Egypt, India, Kuwait, Malaysia, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, to the United Arab Emirates.

Meanwhile, Russia expressed its rejection along with a number of countries, including Iran, Cuba, Belarus, and North Korea.

"Each vote for this resolution is a support for lies, war, and confrontation. Every opposing vote is a voice for peace," the Deputy Ambassador of Russia to the United Nations, Maria Zabolotskaya, told the General Assembly ahead of the vote.

It is known that the UN General Assembly's resolution is non-binding, but weighs as a reflection of global views.

Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. Ukraine accused Russia of kidnapping tens of thousands of its children into Russia or occupied territory of Russia without the consent of a family or guardian.

Previously, Moscow itself said it had protected vulnerable children from the war zone.
