JAKARTA - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made a phone call with United States President Donald Trump, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said, shortly after warnings not to intervene in Syria.
The PMO said the two leaders discussed the ceasefire of the Palestinian militant group Hamas and the Gaza Strip demilitarization. They also discussed Israel in a relationship with countries that did not recognize it, as reported by Al Arabiya (2/12).
President Trump also invited PM Netanyahu to meet at the White House in the near future, the Prime Minister's Office said, without specifying the date.
Earlier on Monday, Trump warned Israel against destabilizing Syria and its new leadership, days after a deadly operation by Israeli forces in the southern region of the country.
"It is very important for Israel to maintain a strong and honest dialogue with Syria, and nothing will happen that will disrupt Syria's evolution into a prosperous country," President Trump warned on his Truth Social platform.
President Trump has pushed for a security pact between Israel and Syria since Syrian opposition forces toppled the old ruler Bashar al-Assad a year ago.
However, tensions escalated after hundreds of Israeli attacks in Syria. In the deadliest attack so far, Israeli forces killed 13 people on Friday in an operation in southern Syria, saying they were targeting a militant group.
The Republican politician said he was "very satisfied" with Syria's performance under President Ahmed al-Sharaa, who made a historic visit to the White House in November.
