Riau Islands Governor Instructs Regent/Mayor To Prepare For Year-End Disasters

TANJUNG PINANG - Governor of the Riau Islands (Kepri) Ansar Ahmad instructed all regents and mayors in the area to be alert and alert to potential natural disasters towards the end of 2025.

According to Ansar, extreme weather in the form of rain and strong winds usually occurs in Riau Islands at the end of the year. This condition risks triggering floods, high landslides to high sea waves.

"I ask the regents/mayors to take mitigation and anticipation steps in their respective areas, especially disaster-prone areas," said Governor Ansar in Tanjungpinang, Saturday.

Ansar also emphasized the importance of preparing and mapping disaster-prone areas in each district/city, so that the government can take anticipatory steps early on.

He gave an example of people who live in cliff areas to be given socialization and education to be vigilant during the rainy season, because of the risk of landslides.

"We don't want landslides in Batam and Natuna that claimed victims some time ago to repeat themselves. That's why disaster anticipation is needed," said Ansar.

He also stated the Riau Islands Provincial Government's commitment to continue to fix disaster-prone areas, such as floods that often occur in several areas of Batam and Tanjungpinang.

Governor Ansar hopes that Riau Islands will always be safe and avoid disasters, however, all parties still have to increase preparedness for the threat of disasters that can come at any time.

In addition, Ansar admitted that he was concerned about the floods and landslides that hit North Sumatra, West Sumatra and Aceh, recently.

"Hopefully our brothers there will always receive protection and help from Allah SWT," said Ansar.
