JAKARTA - Commander of the National Air Operations Command (Pangkoopsudnas) Marsdya TNI Minggit Tribowo said Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, East Jakarta, was used as a logistics aid delivery post for flood victims in North Sumatra, West Sumatra, and Aceh.

"We have opened a post at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB)," said Minggit when met at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, Antara, Friday, November 27.

Minggit explained that the use of Halim Air Base as the main point of logistics delivery has actually been running since the last few days.

The post, he said, accommodates various types of assistance from government agencies and related parties before being flown using a TNI AU transport plane.

"The number of aircraft will adjust to the amount of load (charge) of assistance to be brought," he said.

He ensured that the command post remained open to anyone who wanted to distribute aid to flood victims in the Sumatra region.

On the same occasion, Cabinet Secretary (Seskab) Teddy Indra Wijaya said the government today deployed four Indonesian Air Force transport aircraft to send logistics from Halim Air Base to the three provinces.

The types of aid sent, said Teddy, include refugee tents, rubber boats, generators for electricity needs, and communication tools.

"There are tents around 150, then rubber boats are around 64. Then generators and about 100 communication tools so that signals can be reused," said Teddy.

In addition, the government also sends ready-to-eat food, health workers, and medicines for the urgent needs of the victims.

Teddy added that assistance would be deployed at the airport closest to the flood site before being distributed by land or helicopter.

"To Padang (West Sumatra), then to Silangit Airport (North Sumatra), as well as to airports in Banda Aceh and Lhokseumawe because it is closest to affected areas," he explained.

He ensured that the delivery of aid was carried out simultaneously until conditions in the three areas returned to conducive.
