PADANG PARIAMAN - The road that connects Padang Pariaman Regency with Agam Regency, West Sumatra, was cut off due to landslides in Luhuang, Korong Batu Mangaum, Nagari Kuranji Hulu, Sungai Garinggiang District.

The landslide was triggered by extreme weather that hit the area in the past week.

"The landslide side was around this morning," said the Mayor of Korong Batu Mangaum, Jepri, in Sungai Garinggiang, Antara, Thursday, November 27.

Jepri explained, at around 12.00 WIB the landslide was completely so that motorized vehicles could not be crossed. Whereas previously, the road could still be passed by motorbikes, while four-wheeled vehicles were directed to other lanes.

Due to the interruption of road access, the police diverted traffic to other lanes, one of which was to Nagari Batu Gadang Kuranji Hulu.

Officers also installed police lines at the landslide site to prevent residents from approaching, considering the potential for further landslides is still high because the rain has not stopped.

The location of the landslide was right on the side of the area repaired by the West Sumatra Provincial Government a few months ago.

The road section is under the authority of the provincial government and had landslides several years ago. After repairs, the condition of the main road is considered still safe, but the cliff beside it does not receive special treatment.

As a result, parts of the cliff collapsed and closed half of the road in the morning and developed into a full landslide during the day.

Previously, the Padang Pariaman Regency Government established a disaster emergency response status following floods, landslides, and fallen trees in a number of areas since extreme weather hit the area on Friday, November 21.

"Semua personel terkait harus bergerak cepat, fokus pada keselamatan warga dan penanganan darurat," kata Bupati Padang Pariaman, John Kenedy Azis, di Parik Malintang.

Penetapan status tersebut didasarkan pada kajian pemerintah daerah terkait dampak bencana, keterbatasan sumber daya lokal, serta rekomendasi Badan Penanggulangan Bencana Daerah (BPBD) Padang Pariaman.

"All relevant personnel must move quickly, focus on the safety of residents and emergency handling," said Padang Pariaman Regent John Kenedy Azis, in Parik Malintang.

The status determination is based on a local government study related to the impact of disasters, limited local resources, and recommendations from the Padang Pariaman Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).
