Good News For Tourists And Climbers, Bromo-Semeru Area Opened Starting May 24

JAKARTA - The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Center (BB-TNBTS) stated that the Bromo tourist area, and the climbing of Mount Semeru in East Java, will reopen to tourists in May 24, 2021.

The Head of the BB-TNBTS Public Relations and Reporting Evaluation Subdivision, Sarif Hidayat, said that the opening was carried out after the temporary closure during the Lebaran holiday, to anticipate the spread of COVID-19 in tourist attractions.

"The tourist area of ​​Bromo and the climbing of Semeru will reopen on May 24, 2021", said Sarif, in Malang City, East Java, as reported by Antara, Monday, May 24.

Sarif explained, for tourists who will visit the Bromo area, several requirements must be met, considering that currently in Indonesia there is still a disease pandemic due to the spread of the coronavirus.

Some of these requirements include, tourists must be in good health and show a health certificate from a doctor, or a valid rapid test result, with a negative result of COVID-19.

Then, the age of visitors who are allowed is under 60 years. For pregnant women, explained Sarif, currently they are not allowed to enter the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park area.

In addition, other requirements are that visitors are required to keep their distance, not crowd, and wear masks. Then, bring hand sanitizer or liquid soap that can be used to wash hands in the places provided.

"For each individual or group, before registering, it is obligatory to observe the registration procedure and be guided by the rules that have been determined", said Sarif.

In the Bromo area, the TNBTS Center also limits visitor quotas by considering the area's capacity. At the Bukit Cinta site, the quota is set at 56 people per day, Bukit Kedaluh 172 people per day, and Penanjakan 339 people.

"Then for Mentigen, the quota is limited to 200 people per day, and Savana Teletubies to 867 people per day", said Sarif.

Sarif added that while climbing to Mount Semeru, his party also set a quota for climbers. Based on the results of monitoring and evaluation, the quota is set at 300 people per day or 50 percent of the total carrying capacity.

"The quota is divided into 130 climbers for the regular quota, and 170 climbers for rescheduling", said Sarif.

Climbing is only permitted for three days and two nights, and the recommended safe climbing limit is in the Kalimati area. Climbers are also required to comply with the provisions related to the implementation of health protocols for handling COVID-19.

The tourism activities in the Bromo area and the climbing of Mount Semeru were carried out on May 13-23, 2021. The closure is an effort to control the potential for the increase and break the chain of the spread of COVID-19, during the Eid holiday.
