3 Rubber Boats Deployed, Hundreds Of Agam Residents Evacuated From Palm Oil Land Submerged

The Padang City Basarnas, West Sumatra, deployed three rubber boats to evacuate flood-affected residents in a number of areas of Agam Regency after heavy rains hit the area.

Field Coordinator Basarnas Padang, Atta Priyono said rubber boats were deployed to Palembayan, Tanjung Raya, Ampek Nagari, and Tanjung Mutiara sub-districts.

"We deployed one previous boat unit and now two more units are added," said Atta in Lubuk Basung, Antara, Wednesday, November 26.

He explained that the first rubber boat used belonged to West Pasaman Basarnas to evacuate residents trapped in floods in Palembayan District on Sunday, November 23.

Furthermore, Basarnas Padang lowered a rubber boat to evacuate 25 residents in Koto Kaciak, Tanjung Raya District. A similar process was also carried out in Anak Aia Kasiang, Nagari Bawang, Ampek Nagari District, for 16 residents.

"We focus on evacuating Aia Kasiang's children for children and women. The water depth reaches two meters, so that all houses are submerged," he said.

The re-evacuation was resumed at Tiku Lima Jorong, Tanjung Mutiara District, against 20 families on Wednesday (26/11). This rescue operation also involved the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) of Agam Regency and local residents.

In total, 12 Basarnas Padang personnel and eight PMI Agam personnel were deployed in the evacuation. Basarnas also deployed an ambulance, two operational cars, and a medical team from the Muaro Putih Health Center.

Atta mengakui, tim menghadapi sejumlah kendala di lapangan, khususnya medan evakuasi yang berada di lahan perkebunan kelapa sawit dan curah hujan yang masih tinggi.

Atta admitted that the team faced a number of obstacles in the field, especially the evacuation field located on oil palm plantations and high rainfall.
