JAKARTA - The trend of violence against women and children in Jakarta this year has increased compared to 2024.
The Special Staff of the Governor of DKI Jakarta for Social Communication, Chico Hakim, explained the five main factors that triggered violence, based on the identification of the Ministry of PPPA and the report from the DKI Jakarta Department of Child Protection and Population Control (DPAPP).
"Based on the identification of the KemenPPPA and the DKI DPAPP report, there are five main factors that are often triggers in Jakarta. This is interrelated, especially in the midst of urban dynamics such as congestion, high cost of living, and changes in family patterns," Chico told reporters, Monday, November 24.
Chico conveyed the list of factors, ranging from economic pressure to gender inequality which is still strong in some community groups.
According to him, the financial pressure of families, such as unemployment or inflation, often triggers domestic conflicts that lead to domestic violence, affecting women and children as the main victims.
"In Jakarta, this is dominant because many migrant workers are separated from their families," said Chico.
Then, in parenting in the family, parents who are busy working often have difficulty raising their children, plus a lack of positive parenting knowledge.
"This has an impact on emotional or physical violence, where children are looking for escape outside the home which is actually risky," he said.
In addition, excessive use of gadgets and digital media contributes to changes in youth behavior, while underprivileged social environments make victims more vulnerable.
Environmental and social factors also affect. Chico said that the surrounding environment, such as neighbors, does not care or the inequality of power relations in schools/communities, facilitates violence.

Furthermore, patriarchal norms and early marriage are entry points for violence, plus lack of access to education and law. This is often detected in cases of domestic violence or sexual violence.
"This factor is based on a 2025 national survey, in which 70 percent of victims are reluctant to report because of the stigma. Prevention must start from the family, with early education," he explained.
Based on records, cases of violence against women and children handled by the PPAPP Office for the period January to November 2025 were 1,917 cases. This figure is almost equivalent to cases throughout 2024 with a total of 2,041 cases.
Based on population identity, the most victims of violence for the January-November 2025 period came from the East Jakarta Administrative City, with a total of 513 victims or covering 25.5% of the total data.
The second position is occupied by South Jakarta with 337 victims (16.8 percent), followed by West Jakarta with 316 victims (15.7 percent), and North Jakarta with 303 victims (15.1 percent). Meanwhile, Central Jakarta recorded 223 victims (11.1 percent). The Thousand Islands region recorded the lowest number with 16 victims.
Judging from the type of case, children and women are the most vulnerable groups to violence. Sexual violence in children is the highest case with 588 cases (21.9 percent). The second most cases are domestic violence (KDRT) against women as many as 412 cases (15.4 percent).
