Gibran Vice President At The G20 Summit, Judged Not Achievement

JAKARTA - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka represented President Prabowo Subianto at the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, on November 22-23, 2025. At the international event, Gibran will deliver a speech.

Responding to this, political communication observer at Esa Unggul University, Jamiluddin Ritonga, assessed that this momentum is not something extraordinary. As Vice President, according to him, Gibran should have represented President Prabowo if he was unable to attend.

"This has indeed been regulated in the Indonesian state administration. Therefore, there is nothing extraordinary and strange if Gibran representing Prabowo attends and will address the G20 Summit in Johannesburg," said Jamiluddin in Jakarta, Saturday, November 22.

In fact, continued Jamiluddin, it would be strange if President Prabowo was unable to attend, but was represented not by the vice president.

"Say Prabowo's absence was represented to one of his ministers, while his vice president was healthy and fit," he said.

"So, even if Gibran will make a speech at the G20 Summit, it is not because he is a great figure. Gibran can make speeches in Johannesburg alone because he plays a role in representing Prabowo," he continued.

As the President in international events, Jamiluddin hopes that Gibran can maintain Indonesia's dignity in the eyes of the world. At least, he said, Gibran must be able to show his capacity as Vice President of a large nation, namely Indonesia.

"At least Gibran can wake up and stop the G20 leader as Prabowo did during a speech at the United Nations. That way, the leaders of countries that are members of the G20 consider that there is no imbalance in President Prabowo's capacity with his deputy Gibran," he explained.

"If this can be shown by Gibran, then the Vice President has been able to make Indonesia proud in the world, at least in the G10. Gibran deserves to be Vice President and represent the President in the international arena," he added.

Thus, said Jamiluddin, Vice President Gibran can ease the duties of the President.

"Vice President Gibran is not a burden, but plays a role in helping the President to advance pride and his beloved Indonesian country," he said.

This, he added, could at the same time refute the doubts of some of the nation's children in Gibran's capacity as vice president.

"It's time for Gibran to prove it in Johannesburg, South Africa. We'll wait," he concluded.
