JAKARTA - Iran released a Marshall Islands-flagged tanker with its entire 21 crew a few days after Tehran seized the ship without explanation.

Tehran has yet to provide a direct statement regarding the release of the Talara, which marks the first seizure of the ship by Iran in months.

The Middle East is still strained after a 12-day war with Israel in June and concerns over the Islamic Republic's nuclear program still exist.

Cyprus-based Columbia Shipmanagement said the crew were "safe".

"We have notified their families, and the ship is now free to continue normal operations," the company said.

"No charges have been made against the ship, its crew, as well as the ship's managers and owners," the company continued in a statement.

Data on ship tracking analyzed by the Associated Press shows Talara sailing away from Iran.

On Friday, the Iranian military seized the ship while sailing through the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow estuary of the Persian Gulf, which is traversed by 20% of all trafficked oil. The ship was sailing from Ajman, United Arab Emirates, to Singapore.
