Heaty Relations, China Warns Citizens Not To Travel To Japan

JAKARTA - China issued a travel warning urging its citizens to avoid traveling to Japan. This travel warning emerged amid the heated diplomatic relations between the two countries regarding the threat of Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi who previously stated the possibility of deploying troops if China attacked Taiwan.

Citing Al Jazeera's report, Sunday, November 16, the travel warning announcement was released by the Chinese Embassy in Japan via uploading an online video on Friday.

"Recently, Japanese leaders have made very provocative statements regarding Taiwan which seriously undermines the atmosphere of communication between communities. This situation poses a significant risk to the personal safety and lives of Chinese citizens in Japan," reads the video upload on the WeChat platform.

Also mentioned in the upload, China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with Chinese embassies and consulates in Japan seriously reminded Chinese nationals to avoid traveling to Japan in the near future.

Regarding travel warning from China, the Japanese Government has filed an objection on Saturday (15/11/2025) by sending an official protest. Kyodo News reported that Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Minuru Kihara urged China to take appropriate steps.

Meanwhile, a number of major Chinese airlines have announced full refunds for passengers with a travel destination to Japan before the end of 2025. China's Air, China Southern, and China Eastern in a separate statement stated that ticket holders are likely to start getting refunds or could change travel for free for flights from Saturday 15 November to 31 December 2025.

Earlier, on Friday early November Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi told the Japanese parliament the use of military force against Taiwan could trigger a response to the deployment of military troops from Japan. The Chinese government views Takaichi's statement as a form of provocation.
