5 Days Flooded, Students Of SDN Pamarican 1 Serang Forced To Learn From Home

SERANG - Teaching and learning activities (KBM) at SDN Pamarican 1 Serang City, Banten, had to be carried out online after the school building was flooded for five consecutive days.

The head of SDN Pamarican 1, Rohmatun Najilah, said the decision to cancel face-to-face activities was taken because school conditions did not allow them to be used for teaching and learning. Water began to inundate classrooms since Sunday, November 9.

"It's been running online since Monday. From Saturday it has been raining all day, and the water has started to enter the classroom and school environment on Sunday morning," said Rohmatun in Serang, Antara, Thursday, November 13.

He explained that the lower school position compared to the residential areas at the back made it easy for delivery water to inundate the school area every time it rained heavily.

"The water is difficult to recede because the school's position is lower, so every time it rains heavily, the water from behind flows directly to the yard and class," he explained.

According to Rohmatun, student safety is the main consideration of online learning decisions. In addition to slippery and dirty school areas, flooding also carries the risk of the emergence of dangerous animals.

"It's complicated, in sixth grade yesterday there was a snake and not just one. The teachers are worried about this condition, so we agreed to study from home first," he said.

Currently, as many as 196 students at SDN Pamarican 1 follow online KBM. The school will continue this learning method until the water completely recedes and the weather improves.

"If it is still raining today and conditions are not safe, we will continue online. Because if forced to come to school, the atmosphere will not be conducive," he said.
