JAKARTA - Minister of Manpower (Menaker) Yassierli said about 50 percent of the current work will be replaced by artificial intelligence (AI) machines in the next 10 years. To deal with major changes in the industrial era 4.0, increasing the competence of Indonesian workers is important.
According to Yassierli, the ability in terms of skilling, reskilling, and upskilling is the key so that Indonesian workers remain relevant in the midst of technological advances, automation, and AI development.
"For the next 10 years, maybe 50% of the current work will be replaced by machines or AI. Therefore, we must answer this challenge seriously through skilling, reskilling, and upskilling programs," Yassierli said in Tangerang, Wednesday, November 13.
The Minister of Manpower explained that the transformation of labor competence is not only the responsibility of the government, but also requires close collaboration between the business world, industry, and trade unions.
He assessed that without increasing capabilities, Indonesian workers would find it difficult to compete in the increasingly competitive global work market.
In order to support the agenda of increasing national competence, the Ministry of Manpower will strengthen the role of the Job Training Center (BLK) and the Productivity Vocational Center (BVP) as training centers and human resource development.
Currently, there are 41 BLKs throughout Indonesia that are ready to be used for various types of training, ranging from information technology (IT), machinery, barista, hospitality, welding, to green jobs.
BLK must be home to all workers to learn and develop. This is a concrete step so that we are ready to face the change in the world of work," said Yassierli.
The government targets at least 500,000 training participants to be able to participate in the competency development program. That number has the potential to increase to millions of participants if it involves active participation from trade unions, industry, and vocational educational institutions.
Minister of Manpower Yassierli emphasized that the strategy to improve competence through skilling, reskilling, and upskilling is part of the government's efforts to create a strong, adaptive, and highly competitive workforce in the digital era.
