Bandung Police Chief Kombes Pol Budi Sartono said a man with the initials NA (27) was desperate to steal and kill Ilham Firmanyah who was the guard of the cellphone counter in Sukajadi, Bandung City because he was in debt due to online gambling.

"So as a result of the confession, the money earned was paid for his debts to several people because the person concerned borrowed money to play judol," Budi said, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, November 12.

Budi explained that the incident occurred on Friday (7/11) at around 03.00 WIB at a cell phone counter in Sukajadi District. At that time, the perpetrator entered the counter through the bathroom roof with the aim of stealing money.

When entering the counter of the cellphone, it was discovered that the perpetrator fell into the bathroom, resulting in a voice that woke the victim and shouted thief.

"The suspect reflexively because he had brought a machete, he immediately stabbed the victim, stabbed the victim," he said.

Budi said the victim had tried to escape to the bathroom, but the perpetrator chased and stabbed him repeatedly until the victim died at the scene.

"From the results of the examination, the victim suffered about 30 injuries from sharp weapons," he said.

After confirming the death toll, the perpetrator took around Rp22.8 million in cash as well as a number of items and counter inventory phones, then fled to Bandung Regency.

Budi revealed that due to the hard work of the Bandung Police Satresktim investigators, the perpetrator was arrested on Tuesday (11/11) at a boarding house in Cicalengka District, Bandung Regency.

"Our perpetrators are ensnared by Article 365 of the Criminal Code regarding theft with violence and Article 338 of the Criminal Code concerning murder, with a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison," said Budi.
